This category is made up of words that end in “-ent” or “-ant” in English. For many of these words, all you have to do is add the letter “e” to the end, and voila (wrong language, I know): you have the correct word in Spanish.

Keep in mind that the other rules of Spanish spelling still apply. For example, when translating “different” into Spanish, the double “f” in the middle becomes a single “f” (“diferente”). Similarly, “elephant” switches out the “ph” for an “f” and becomes “elefante.”

  • importante

  • conveniente

Like the “-ble” words a few lessons ago, these “-ent” and “-ant” words have the emphasis on the second-to-last syllable. So “importante” is “im-por-TAN-te.”
